Project Details

BRIEF

CSR provided landscape architecture services from detailed design through to construction, with concept and planning led by AECOM. The project is located on a steep hillside with a 47-metre level change, presenting major challenges in creating usable, accessible open spaces and private gardens. The brief called for a high-quality, resilient landscape that could integrate with the site's complex topography and rich natural setting.

CONCEPT

The design responds directly to the site's dramatic terrain and ecological context. Terraced housing is carved into the hillside, supported by EvoGeo green retaining walls that echo the historic ramparts of nearby forts. Mature trees and hedgerows were retained to anchor the development within its landscape.

A mix of landscape typologies are unified by accessible, step-free routes across the steep site, including streetscapes, play areas, public open spaces, a greenway and tailored private gardens. Sustainability is embedded through permeable paving, on-site water attenuation, native and pollinator-friendly planting and EV charging for every unit. Bespoke detailing and innovative use of green infrastructure define the project’s character and performance.
