FITZGERALD’S PARK CORK, INCLUSIVE PLAY AREA

Project Details

BRIEF

CSR was commissioned by Cork City Council, in partnership with Bons Secours Hospital, to design a bespoke play area that would be inclusive, imaginative and accessible to children of all abilities. The project set out to create more than just a playground, it aimed to establish a space that encourages creativity, social interaction and active play for a wide range of users. CSR worked closely with play specialists Kompan Ireland Ltd and Snug & Outdoor London to ensure that both the practical needs of accessibility and the joyful spirit of play were fully integrated into the design.

CONCEPT

The design takes inspiration from Cork Harbour, its historic castles, natural landscapes and long-standing shipping traditions. These themes are expressed through a playful mix of features including a castle, ship, climbing wall and a wide variety of swings, see-saws, roundabouts and grass mounds. Together, these elements create a dynamic play environment that combines inclusivity with a sense of adventure, exploration and movement. The result is a distinctive and welcoming destination that offers every child the chance to experience both challenge and fun in a safe, imaginative setting.
