OVERVIEW
CSR was commissioned by Galway City Council to prepare a Recreation and Amenity Needs Study for Galway and its surrounding areas. The study evaluated the existing provision and future demand for open space and recreational facilities, supporting the development of a strategic framework to meet the needs of a growing population. Given the city’s rich natural heritage, a key focus was on balancing increased recreational use with the protection and sensitive management of ecologically important sites.
SERVICE PROVIDED
CSR undertook a comprehensive assessment, including detailed audits of open spaces, ecological areas, coastal and waterway assets, and sports facilities. This was complemented by surveys to better understand current usage patterns and anticipate future needs. An extensive programme of consultation with the public, local clubs, organisations and key stakeholders informed the study, alongside CSR’s analysis. This process resulted in a robust set of strategic policies and targeted actions for the sustainable development and management of recreation and amenity resources across the city.
