OVERVIEW

The CSR team has provided planning and landscape consultancy services to Sport Ireland for the National Sports Campus at Abbottstown, Dublin 15 over a period of nearly two decades and has been involved in most of the more significant and recent development. The campus represents a flagship hub for sport, accommodating activity and participation for the national population, local communities and sports groups, supporting people of all abilities while also catering for elite performance. CSR’s involvement has centred on preserving and enhancing the integrity and coherence of the original masterplan and concept for the campus taking account of constantly evolving standards of facilities and amenities whilst taking account of more recent legal, regulatory, environmental, planning and sustainability guidance. CSR’s strategic planning advice ensures compliance with the Fingal County Development Plan in addition to national policy objectives and the long-term vision for a sustainable, inclusive, world-class sporting campus.

SERVICE PROVIDED

Under the masterplan, CSR has delivered comprehensive planning, urban design and landscape architecture services in collaboration with Faulkner Brown Architects. The masterplan brings together over two decades of ambition to deliver an internationally recognised, best-in-class sports campus that meets the specialised needs of high-performance athletes while promoting wider participation and supporting the work of Ireland’s sporting governing bodies. The plan carefully balances the diverse requirements of multiple user groups with the sensitive regeneration of a significant heritage asset at the heart of the site. Their role has included feasibility studies and complex planning applications as well as detailed design and implementation for key elements. CSR’s input has helped ensure that all components meet the highest international standards, including UEFA, FIFA and Olympic specifications. Through this work, the project continues to evolve as a facility designed to serve both community participants and world-class athletes within an environment of exceptional quality and sustainability.
