CSR delighted to be appointed to lead the New Ross Town Centre First Plan, with our Urban Design Team led by Thorsten Peters, Howley Hayes Cooney Architecture on conservation and heritage, Tobins Consulting Engineers on traffic , Optimise Economic Consultants and A Playful City managing public engagement.
The project is part of the 2022 Government guidance document Town Centre First – A Policy Approach for Irish Towns prepared by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. This new initiative acknowledges that every town is different, in size, location, topography, history and heritage. It is different in demography, trade and employment, transport mobility and quality of the public realm, and New Ross, a historic Norman settlement Village with a rich cultural and economic heritage from its river port is no exception. Town Centre First envisages identifying and addressing opportunities and constraints in New Ross to encourage the strengthening of local identity and character that are unique, whilst supporting a broad urban regeneration strategy based on proven approaches and local stakeholder engagement. We look forward to developing this strategy over the coming months.
