CSR is delighted to welcome Derek Smyth to our Cork office as Senior Planner.

A Chartered Town Planner with more than 20 years’ experience in development management, Derek brings extensive expertise in the assessment and delivery of major residential, commercial and infrastructure projects across Ireland, the UK and Australia.

Derek has built much of his career within planning authorities, giving him valuable insight into the development management process and the assessment of complex planning applications. His experience spans large-scale urban extensions and residential developments, high-density city-centre schemes, mixed-use development and major infrastructure projects.

Throughout his career, Derek has held senior roles with Christchurch and East Dorset District Council in the UK, Sydney City Council and the New South Wales Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. His project experience includes leading the assessment of an 875-home urban extension in Christchurch, Dorset, and a 55-metre mixed-use tower in Sydney’s Central Business District.

An economics graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Derek also holds an MSc in Regional and Urban Planning from University College Dublin and is a full member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

Having returned to Ireland in 2025, Derek brings significant international experience, together with a collaborative and delivery-focused approach to planning. His appointment further strengthens CSR’s planning team and our ability to support clients through increasingly complex planning and development processes.
