Cunnane Stratton Reynolds were delighted to be invited to attend the Opening of Phase 2 of the Ulster Canal Restoration Project on Wednesday 19th June. An historic cross-border project was opened with 5 Irish Government Ministers in attendance and 2 from the Northern Ireland Executive. Taoiseach Simon Harris, Tánaiste Micheál Martin, Ministers Darragh O’Brien and Heather Humphreys, Minister of State Malcolm Noonan, Northern Ireland Minister for Infrastructure, John O’Dowd MLA, and Junior Minister in the Executive Office Pam Cameron  MLA, today officially marked the completion of Phase 2 of the Ulster Canal restoration in Clones County Monaghan. The project was completed by Waterways Ireland, a cross-border body established under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement.

CSR provided Landscape Design and Arboriculture advice to DBFL Consulting Engineers (Lead Consultants) and Jons Civil Engineering Company Limited (Main Contractor) ensuring a green and pleasant service and parking area to the new marina, reinstatement of meadows, trees and hedgerows along the route and protection and retention of key mature trees close to the works areas. The team in CSR consisted of Lucy Carey and Ronan Finnegan overseeing the landscape design and Keith Mitchell providing Arboriculture advice. Future phases of the scheme will link to Lough Erne system to the west and potentially Lough Neagh to the north.

The scheme was opened on a beautiful sunny day attended by government ministers, local elected representatives and the people of Clones, including a well known celebrity known in a different sporting field.
